good evening. i'm ama daetz. we begin with developing news tonight. we apologize. an american doctor abducted by the taliban identify daves ago has been rescued in afghanistan. he dr. joseph was captured in

kabul. the mission was a nighttime helicopter raid by u.s. special operations forces in a remote area. no u.s. forces died in the raid but several taliban were killed. joseph was beaten severely but will be joining his family and loved ones. tonight, oakland police are trying to find the killer who shot a map to death in broad daylight near jack london square. it happened this afternoon. john alston says the shooting hag raised concerns about growing crime in oakland. >> nearly four hours after the killing, the victim's body was removed in oakland police opened up third street between broadway and franklin. the mid-afternoon shooting took place just a few blocks from the entrance to jack london scare where a lick -- lake merritt resident. >> i feel unsafe in oakland.

b.a.r.t. police. >> an armed man who took two women hostage is recovering tonight. cameras caught the smoke of a concussion grenade fired into jack-in-the-box. a hostage was then rushed to safety by the police. the gunman's condition is unknown. police received a call of a robbery in progress. a four-hour standoff resulted. the other hostage was released safely. >> in san francisco officers say five men, at least one of whom was armed, terrorized people in a home invasion in richmond district. 'opolice got a call at 6:30 from a neighbor who told us he hear screaming from the house. by the time ofs arrived the men were gone. and got away with a number of items from the house. >> a strong chemical smell forced a grocery store? concord to close. firemen got a call about people whose eyes were burning and had

presented in such a prominent way. >> student senator recently voted in favor of a campus resolution to remove the donation boxes. >> we think they should be replaced with an organization like the goodwill that doesn't discriminate based on sexual orientation. >> the university student government association believes the salvation army is antigay with a long history of discrimination. last summer an official with the charity told an australian radio show that according to scripture, gays must die. >> we have been suppliesed. i didn't know they were antigay, homophobics. >> many students support the move to ban the salvation army, but nick says no. he wants the books to stay. >> donating to the salvation army doesn't mean you're prejudice against gays and lesbians. just means you want to help people. >> in statement to abc-7 news, the charity says, the salvation

dallas cowboys defensive linemen josh present has been charged with manslaughter after he flipped his car in an accident that killed teammate jerry brown. it's the second time in a week there's been a tragedy involving an nfl player. here's the details. reporter: early saturday morning, josh brent was speeding on a service road in a dallas suburb when his vehicle hit a

curb and flipped. >> our initial indication is that when officers arrived on scene, mr. brent was removing -- dragging mr. brown from the vehicle. i should also point out that the vehicle actually did catch on fire. >> the passenger, brent's cowboys teammate, 25-year-old jerry brown, was pronounced dead at the hospital. brent was initially arrested on suspicion of drunk driving after failing a sobriety test and after brown died, that charge was upgraded to intoxication manslaughter. cowboys owner jerry jones issued a statement saying, we are deeply saddened by the news of this accident and the passing of jerry brown. at this time our hearts and prayers and deepest simple this are with the members of jerry's family and all those who knew him and loved him. this incident comes a week after kansas city chiefs linebacker javon belcher killed his girlfriend and then took his own life at the team's practice facility. a newly released video taken before the murder-suicide shows

police responding to a 9-1-1 call and finding belcher passed out in his bentley after reportedly being out drinking with another woman. present is being held without bond. the cowboys play the bengals in cincinnati sunday as scheduled. >> new developments in egypt. president morsi has listened to the opposition and has agreed to rescind some of the near absolute power he granted himselfs. the extra powers were set to expire next week anyway. morsi's decision comes after a rally in san francisco today. protesters don't want morsi removed from office but say his power grab is not the way a democracy should be run. >> not accepting all the new decisions by president morsi, and we want more equality for all egypt schappes, not just the muslim broughthood. >> the muslim brotherhood is morsi's political power.

in venezuela, hugo chavez will undergo surgery for cancer for the third time. he will go to cuba tomorrow for surgery. in february the 58-year-old president has surgery again for a tumor. chaff venezuela won re-election in october. >> a receipt from a stockton restaurant is heating up the internet. lots of people are commenting on this story. a waiter is suspended and three restaurant patients are reeling because of two little words with a big impact. fat girls. the description was printed on the check of three friends dining at the club casino restaurant in stockton. they complained to the manager. he offered them a discount. one of the wick took a picture of the check and says they're sharing their storieses so people understand it was wrong.

the high clouds and another batch moving from north to south, and underneath these clouds, especially in the north bay, near santa rosa, in the last hour or so they're reporting very dense fog. 15 minutes ago they had less than two mile visibility. i just updated the map. now that is eight mile visibility. novato, nine miles, napa, the fog migrating towards the east, napa, seven miles visibility. the rest of the bay area doing pretty good but the central valley fog will migrate back torts the west overnight. that could pose some travel problems tomorrow morning. right now we're 54 in antioch. 44 in concord. 52, san francisco. napa, 40. 48 in mountain view. we'll continue with the patchy areas of dense fog overnight. warmer getting into sunday and monday, and then start to cool things down and bring showers back into our forecast. lows tonight, generally mid-to

upper 30s in the north bay, a little warmer thanks to the veil of clouds over you. 47 for san francisco tonight and we'll go 37 with pockets of fog near the livermore valley area. here's what i'm talking about. fog, very dense in the central valley, and then the winds migrate back towards the west so towards the delta, antioch, oakley, brentwood, you may wake up with very dense fog and then it should start to thin out by around, i'd say, 10:00, 11:00. here's the setup. high pressure diverting storms to the north of us. this is that branch of high clouds that will filter buy overnight tonight, keeping us a little warmer, but tomorrow this high is going to settle in over us. it will bring a slot north to northeast wind flow. higher elevations is where the winds will be with us, from 30 to maybe gusts up to 40 miles-per-hour at the higher elevations, and this will also

controversy is brewing at the state capitol over repairs made to legislators cars just as the government pulled the plug on the free ride. here's the story. reporter: state lawmakers no longer get vehicles as part of their compensation. they're now reimbursed per mile like most workers in the private sector for any business-related trips. but the compensation commission said the car perks had to end. california was the only state in the country providing vehicles for politicians while deep budget cuts were happening. a new "associated press" analysis, though, found in the months leading up to surrendering their cars a year ago, several lawmakers had extensive repairs done on taxpayer money. some were routine maintenance work, others upgraded their gps systems, had the brakes replaced or the bumpers fixed. more than three dozen lawmakers brought their old cars back from private dealers that end up with the state fleet. >> there's some activity that
